Attractions The West End of Glasgow is home to 2 outstanding public parks which are also of historic interest. The Botanic Gardens boasts immaculate grounds and is home to an outstanding variety of tropical plants and flowers. Kelvingrove Park, on the banks of the River Kelvin is very near Glasgow University, houses the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museums and offers many activity areas including bowling greens, tennis courts and a children's play area. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum reopened in July 2006 beautifully restored as a result of a nearly £30 million project. Visitors can enjoy better collections, improved access, shops and an ever larger café. Opposite the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is the Transport Museum which tells the story of an array of transport from years gone by to present day. This can be a fascinating, possibly nostalgic trip and is loved by both adults and children. The West End Festival takes place for a few days in June every year; it has been celebrated for 10 years and has grown from a modest crowd to a bigger crowd due to its evolution of music, theatre, exhibitions and fun filled days. The main base for this festival is Byres Road and Kelvingrove Park. The botanic gardens plays host to the Bard in the Botanics Festival around June/July annually and celebrates the works of the gifted William Shakespeare. The West End of Glasgow has a fabulous selection of shops including high street outlets and designer labels. Arts and crafts are a speciality and can be enjoyed in shops and at street stalls. Relax in one of the West End's finest eateries, a remarkable choice and quality in and around Byres Road and Great Western Road.
